NDORMS Research Assistant
Joana Martins studied Bioengineering in the University of Porto in Portugal where she actively participated in the Bioengineering Student’s Association. During her studies Joana worked in the University of Glasgow for six months investigating the mechanical properties of the neonatal trachea for the development of a biodegradable implant.
After obtaining her masters degree Joana worked as a researcher studying the mechanical and biological properties of chitosan and hyaluronic acid hydrogels for the proliferation of mesenchymal stem cells. She presented her work at the conference Materiais 2015 in Portugal.
Joana started working in Oxford as a research assistant at NDORMS where she collected human tissue from which she isolated tenocytes for research. Currently she works in the development and manufacturing of a biomaterial for tendon regeneration.
Joana is passionate about tissue engineering and the use of biomaterials as medical implants.
